It's time for the City Nature Challenge

Scott Piccotti • April 22, 2026

Join us for the City Nature Challenge: A four-day global event to observe and document wildlife in our cities!

April 24 – April 27, 2026

The Lehigh Valley and its surrounding counties harbor an impressive diversity of wildlife, from migrating warblers and native wildflowers to fascinating fungi and aquatic species along our creeks and rivers.

Here's how to participate:

  •  Get the iNaturalist app and make an account. You can join the Lehigh Valley project on iNaturalist too.
  •  Go out – Explore on your own or join one of our scheduled photo walks. You can even make observations in your own backyard!
  •  Find any wild thing – Plants, mammals, birds, insects, fungi, or even evidence of living organisms like tracks, scat, or nests.
  •  Take a picture – Use your camera or the free iNaturalist app on your phone to snap photos and upload your observations.
  •  Learn more – Watch as your observations get identified by the iNaturalist community and contribute to our understanding of local biodiversity.

All observations made in the Lehigh Valley area during the challenge dates will automatically count toward our city's total. You don't need to be an expert – all ages and experience levels are welcome!

Join a Bioblitz this weekend

You can take pictures and make observations by yourself anywhere, but it's a lot of fun to go out with a group! We've scheduled two photo walks, and the Lehigh U Bioblitz Club is running four more. Sign up and come explore with us!
