Document Layout Specifications
All files must be set up with an extra .25" added to both width and height of the intended size. This will allow a small margin for paper shift during production. 1/8" will be trimmed away on all sides to return it to the ordered size. You must extend background colors and images intended to “bleed” off the edges out into this area so that once the final product is cut to size, no white edges will show on the finished piece.
- Anything within the green safety zone will not be cut into.
- The cut may fall into the yellow or red zones near the line where they meet. No text or important images should be in yellow or red zones.
- Background image(s) or color must be extended all the way through the red zone.
- Set to 300 dpi and CMYK color mode (files created in RGB or grayscale will be converted and colors will shift slightly).
Folded cards:
- All specs above still apply.
- Double the file width for a card that folds on the left. A 5×7 vertical card will be set up at 10¼×7¼, which is double the file height for a card with the fold on the top. A 7×5 horizontal card will be set up at 7¼×10¼.
- Design with the fold in mind (in the exact center of the file).
- Create files using the words “inside” and “outside” so we are clear which file goes where, if it's not obvious.
