How many megapixels?

The term "megapixel" refers to camera resolution. Digital photos are made of lots of little dots called pixels (short for "picture elements"), similar to the way an artist can use lots of individual tiles to make a mosaic. Digital cameras use millions of these pixels to make your image, hence the term mega (for "million") pixel. For example, an 8 megapixel camera generates eight million pixels to create a photo. The more pixels created, the larger you can print your image and still have it look sharp.
