Using Photo Finale

Rotate, Crop, and Resize

Rotating your pictures

This allows the photo to be properly oriented when viewed.

Select the photo to rotate. Click either the rotate left or right button (A). You will not be asked to save after rotating a picture, as it does not change the original file.

Croping your pictures

Select the photo you wish to crop and click Crop (B).

First choose the size you wish to follow for cropping proportions (C). This is only to set the proportions of the crop box. You may print the photo in a size other than the initial one chosen here.

crop and edit buttons

After selecting a print size a dotted box will appear over your photo.

The size you selected is displayed outside the upper left corner of the crop box (D). Click inside the box and drag to reposition the box on your photo. To change the size of the crop box click on a corner and drag the box larger or smaller.

Note: Significant cropping may affect image quality depending on the original resolution of your photo and how large you print it.

crop box

Once the crop box is framed as you wish over the photo click OK. Click Cancel to exit the cropping mode without changing your photo (E).

The No Constraint (F) option allows you to move the crop box without regard to proportions. This may allow you to crop the photo as you wish, however when it is printed it may not fit into a standard photo size. By choosing a standard print size you know the final print will be almost identical to your cropping choice.

We recommend saving your cropped photo as a copy, instead of replacing your original. This allows you to change your cropping later if you have cropped too much or change you mind about the composition. Choose Save As to do this.

Resize

Resize should only be used to reduce the resolution of a photo for use in an application where a large file is not necessary, such as Power Point, or a Word document. We recommend saving a second copy of your file before you resize it, this way you have the full resolution file as well.

Select the photo and click Photo then Resize.

Choose either a percentage of the original size or type in a specific resolution to change the photo to. If you are typing in the resolution, be sure to check the Maintain Aspect Ratio box (G) to avoid distorting the photo.
